He then set out to find the Erskine family to return the photos...KODIAK -- An interesting piece of Kodiak history was uncovered last fall by unsuspecting California genealogist Trevor Thomas. Thomas attended a Gold Rush Days festival in Old Sacramento, Calif., on Labor Day weekend. While observing a display about basket weaving, he noticed a set of two framed old photos..... tracing to Kodiak's historic Erskine House.
When Thomas later extracted the photos from the frame, he noticed writing on the back of the 3-by-5 inch portraits: the names Wilbur Fiske Erskine, shown, and Maria Julia Erskine.
